A gorgeous weekend has begun! For me it started with breakfast on the beach with a friend and the quaint St. Patrick's day parade on Ocean Blvd.
Now, I'm thinking about the great Friday evening I had. I was 'roving' around to get a first hand taste of some of the music I'd been noting on the blog schedule.

First I dropped in to see musicians Kent Taylor Brown and Jeff Haley as they sat in for vacationing 'Reckoning Band' at the 14th Ave. Steakhouse. Couldn't stay long because I had a couple of other venues on my agenda.

I went next door to Shuckdaddy's Rock N Raw Bar and enjoyed a bit of 'Stoney and the House Rockers'. This is a really BIG place with many TV's all around, an actual stage and a sizable dance floor. There are lots of comfortable booths and of course the raw bar in the back.
The leader of the band, Richard Stone, is a songwriter, vocalist and an excellent harmonica player. I thought, "that guy was born with that harp in his mouth," and sure enough, I read that he won the 2012 Florida Harmonica Championship! I didn't catch the names of the other guys, but they were all very good. I like that bluesy, jazzy, sound.

Then over to Old Dixie to the Kilted Mermaid to check out the 'Matt Sams' Band. What a nice place and everyone was in great spirits! Again, I didn't get the names, but I loved this trio; great bass player, drummer and guitar playing singer and I'll be sure to go hear them again.

Around 10, I finally arrived at my final destination, Kelley's Irish Pub. For those of you who still think Kelley's is about old dudes and dudettes singing Irish songs, you have a surprise coming! The 'Deja Vu' band was in full swing and the place was jumping with Vince Caporale on keyboards and guitar and Ed DeAngelo on drums and everybody up dancing to "Love On The Run."

Guest artists were called to the mic: Bob Deniger, "A Kick in the Head"; Canadian Elli, "La Vie en Rose" and Captain Country and Melinda with "Folsom Prison" and "Crazy."  Nancy Richards belted out "At Last" and "Unchain My Heart" - both very impressive songs and a hard act to follow - but I gave it my best with "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?"

All and all, I had a great Friday 'round town. Hope you got out to enjoy some music and mixing with friends.

Here's the St. Patty's schedule again:

Kelley's Irish Pub and Deli will host a BIG party on Sunday, the 17th.  Vince Caporale and Eddie D'Angelo of DejaVu will play from 1 -5.
Often at Kelley's St. Patty's Day, flute players and Irish singers come to sit in, so it's always quite the party, inside and outside.

Another event is at McGarvey's Pub up on Old Dixie with D.J., Studio Bee on Sunday. Not live music, I know, but as owner Phyllis spelled out for me, it's an "open format; dance and Irish drinking music." Sounds like fun.

In the same area, Old Dixie, on Sunday, the Kilted Mermaid is letting it all hang out to celebrate their "favorite day of the year!" with Rowan the Wanderer,  2-6 and Kilt the Messenger 7-10.

The Vero Beach Veterans has Kent Taylor Brown leading the jam session from 4:30 - 8:30, on Sunday.  It's quite likely there will be a wee bit o' Irish singing going on there.

Also, at Shuckdaddy's, the ever popular singing drummer, Rick Collins and Company is the entertainment at the St. Patty's party there on Saturday.
