A new week is underway and they say it's going to be a warm one. Good for that out-doorsy stuff we like to do in Florida's winter.
I attended the 'jam' at the Vero Beach Vets and was happy to see a couple of friends I'd invited had shown up. Good to see you Andrea and Terry. Also nice to get a hit of Kent Taylor Brown's piano playing.
Decided to make a run over to the YNOT Club to see how Jeff Haley and Todd Morgan from 'Reckoning' were doing their first night there. I was surprised to see that the lead female singer, Pam Morgan was there too. She just couldn't resist trying out a new venue!
Well, these three were really 'on' last night and the acoustics in the large room suited them well.
Pam sang "At Last" in a way few can. She puts so much soul into it and her voice is sure and clear. I also loved her "Don't You Want Somebody to Love?" and the amusing "Poor me, Poor me, Poor me, Poor me..another shot of whiskey."
Jeff Haley was superb last night. He used voices I didn't know he had. He went from deep throaty growls to falsetto in "You don't Have to Call me Darlin," and then a smooth, strong voice in a song I love, "You Don't Know What It's Like."
I found myself moving closer to hear these harmonious voices and, in the last set, enjoyed a totally different voice in this trio as Todd took a solo, "Bad Moon Rising."
They are at YNOT every other Sunday, so keep your eye on the schedule. But you can always enjoy their show (and dance madly) at the 14th Avenue Steak House on Fridays, 6-9.
