Well Ok then....

I'm pretty much recovered from the weekend
so, maybe now I can recount a bit about the live music events I enjoyed.

Saturday was a real pleasure at Waldos as they celebrated the local radio station, Planet Vero's first anniversary. Those guys at Waldos really know how to throw a party!

First they had a great band, the 'Uproot Hootenanny,' 5 guys on fiddle, mandolin, stand-up base, banjo and guitar doing bluegrass, reggae, and Irish songs.  It's the kind of music you just have to dance to, if you're like me that is. My notepad says, "one of those wild and crazy bands that makes you want to holler out loud, not to mention, break into a 'jig.'

'Uproot Hootenanny' is from Deerfield Beach but one of them, Brian True is from Ft. Pierce.

For those of you who don't know, there is a local radio station called Planet Vero.  (1370 AM/107.9 FM). There are a variety of talk shows, especially on the week-end, and one of them is the Joe and Lee show from Waldo's.  They were celebrating one year of being on the air.

There were prizes and give-a-ways, (two of which I walked away with) and everyone had fun.

                      And there was cake.

And a hug from my friend, Joe.

Quite a lovely day at Waldo's on the beach.

And then -

Sunday came around, and there was another great party at the Vero Beach Veterans Club. This time it was a 'wrap-up' celebration.

For lord knows how long, Kent Taylor Brown, Mark Lepeska and Peter Armfield have been holding a live music jam session at the Vero Beach Veterans Club on 15th Ave. every Sunday.

All kinds of wonderful musicians have 'sat in' with them as well as a long list of singers. All of us 'regulars' (and a few 'irregulars') have looked forward to this four hours of live and lively music every Sunday afternoon, always excited by the prospect of hearing something really special, created by an unexpected convergence of talent. When that happened, as it often did, the thrill stayed with us all week.

One thing that will be greatly missed is Kent's encouragement of new musicians and singers. He gave them all precious time on-stage to learn and grow, supporting their shaky beginnings by providing a real live band behind them, an experience that most striving musicians and singers could only wish for.
I want to personally thank Kent Taylor Brown for his patience and for making his incredible musical ability available to all of us 'newbies with a dream'.
Let's hope for an occasional 'jam session' at the Vets in the future and everybody be sure to come, bring your instruments and your voice. You never know what marvels will
occur.

For example, everyone at the farewell celebration on Sunday enjoyed the sudden appearance of the 'Beatle Guys', (you'll be hearing more about them here). And when I first arrived, I caught the end of "Bobby McGee" by an incredible female vocalist, whom I hear is"looking for a band."

It was overall a memorable celebration of music and of our wonderful local musicians.

Sorry I didn't get any photos, I was too busy singing and dancing!
