Hello all,

Well, this is what it's all about! I received an E mail from someone out of town who will be visiting Vero and wants to  hear some live music while she's here:

"Nice to find your live music blog! Looking for live music Monday May 6, 7 or 8 as we will be in town then.....hoping you will post what is available. Thanks!

Be sure to let your friends know about the blog so they will know what's happening music-wise in Vero.

Meanwhile, I DID go to the Black Box in Ft. Pierce and I had forgotten how much I enjoy hearing these top-notch musicians. These guys are really exceptional and there is always amusing back and forth commentary between them.

I was glad that "Scat Man" Jack was on the scene as he is very funny and is never at a loss for words. He did "Bye Bye Blackbird" for us.

The jazz ensemble is made up of about 8 musicians: two trombones, a tenor and an alto sax, trumpet, a drummer and bass player as well as a keyboard player. I didn't get all the musicians names, but several notables were Mark Green, who plays an excellent trumpet as well as flute; Chauncy Mays on trombone, and Don Bestor on keyboards.

There were a few jazz singers in the mix including Mia Batalini, VP of Administration as well as wearer of other hats, always busy keeping things running smoothly at the Jazz & Blues Society of Ft. Pierce. She sang "Sway" and "Days of Wine and Roses" and her voice reminded me of Ella Fitzgerald.

The 'auditions' of high school musicians interested in jazz have begun and it must have been quite an experience for them to play with such seasoned musicians.  There was a young bass player, I believe his name was Matt Fulcher from Indian River Charter School, (unfortunately no photo) and Cole Maxwell on alto sax who attends school at the Lincoln Park Academy in Ft. Pierce. These are definitely very promising young musicians and we enjoyed hearing them.

The Tuesday night Jazz Jams at the BlackBox will continue through May and June, so be sure to find time to attend. You will be well entertained! Check out their website: www.jazzsociety.org.
