I guess these are what they call the 'dog days' of summer - although I'm not sure why. But it seems to fit somehow.
But as the evenings cool, there is plenty to go out and enjoy. I finally made it over to Vinz Wine and Dine this past Wednesday and enjoyed this classy small bar with a great outdoor seating area in the arcade. My goal was to hear Rebecca McIlvain play her acoustic guitar and sing songs like "Girl From Impanema", the Beatles, "Julia," and then some Joni Mitchell such as "The Circle Game."

She has a soft, melodious voice, very soothing but interesting. I liked watching her smile at the lyrics as she sang.
It all looked so simple, girl with acoustic guitar and a mic, but then I looked down and saw the many buttoned mixer and noticed the standing sound tower. That's why her songs had more than that basic 'acoustic' sound.

Thursday was the jazz at 14th Ave. Steakhouse. I really like this Rich Hall Sound, especially since Ryan Larsen on keyboards frees Kent Taylor Brown to play his many instruments. I thought Kent's guitar solos were wonderful, as well as his flute and of course saxophone.
If you like jazz, they played tunes such as 'Satin Doll', 'Tenor Madness', 'Jackamo' and 'Makin' Whoopie.' There were times everyone at my table just had to get up and dance to such tunes as 'Moanin' and 'Lester Leaps In.' Loved Wayne Madelena's trumpet and Rich Hall's vocals and drums and of course the exceptional talents of Ryan Larsen on keyboards.
