Tuesday, 4/15 and Wednesday, 4/16

Hello everyone,  I almost didn't go to the Dockside Grill tonight to join the Kent Taylor Brown music fest, but I'm glad I decided to go.

There was a guy from Indiana, Jeff Mcdonald, with a guitar who did a nice rendition of "Margaritaville" and then the lead singer from the local Renegade band that has played at the Lobster Shanty and will be there again on Friday, sang 'Nights in White Satan.'  And Captain Country was in the house, singing with Melinda, something we haven't heard in a while. And Bobby Teta and Linda Lee and of course, Peter Armfield on bass.

Kent and Peter make the party happen

So it was a really nice Monday night party at the Dockside. Try to be there next week or one of these Mondays, 6 to 9. You'll like it.

In case you missed it, here's a review of one of my favorite local artists - pianist and vocalist, Johnny Nick:

Saturday eve I stopped by the Cobalt Room at the Vero Beach Inn and Spa next to Bobby’s to hear Curtis Hill, (Mr. Motown) but unfortunately a wedding was underway.  Curtis was relegated to the lovely but chilly pool area and I wasn’t dressed for it so I decided to move on.  I'll catch him next time.

Fortunately, I knew that a top musical showman was performing not far away so I dropped in at the DiMare Restaurant piano lounge to enjoy the Johnny Nick show!

Johnny Nick

Bobby McGee
Two of the 'usual suspects' were there, Bobby McGee and her friend Betty,
and several full tables of followers were enjoying listening to a medley of songs.  Soon someone asked for Fiddler on the Roof so Johnny launched into “If I Were A Rich Man,” and I love when he gets to the last verse and sings, “Would it spoil some vast eternal plan if I were a wealthy man?” Of course by then, he has made all the animal sounds, throwing in a monkey – which prods the two ‘suspects’ to instantly exclaim, “No Monkeys!”

Holding his audience in thrall, Johnny Nick plays and sings with
an incredible energy and a wonderfully expressive voice
Johnny Nick doesn’t just play the piano, he owns it. The keys dance around at the end of his fingers as he performs “Life is a Caberet” and then on to “Piano Man” and most of the room is singing along. Someone requests Beatles and he tells us there are 211 Beatles songs and that, unfortunately, he only knows about 208 of them – and he does. You can’t stump him with a Beatle request or much of any request for that matter!

It’s 10 o’clock on a Saturday – literally -  and the room has filled with the late crowd and it’s time for “Sweet Caroline.” He tells us that this is an Italian rendition and at his instruction we all happily sing some funny but (I suspect)mildly risque lyrics.

Johnny Nick plays every Friday and Saturday at DiMare Ristaurante on the island, from 8 to about 11pm - or whenever the crowd will let him go. Be sure to catch his act one evening and take friends that you want to show an especially good time – they won’t be disappointed. Go early for a delicious dinner and then get seated at one of the tall tables in the lounge for a memorable evening.
Note: Be sure to tell owners, Editha and John that Tricia from VBLive sent you.
